Dining Room Linens and Pineapples

This client wanted to change up her dinning room a bit so we re-covered her chair seat cushions, made some comfy kidney pillows for the head chairs, and added a custom table runner.

We decided to use some of the same fabrics and trims in the dining room linens as we did for the living room pillows and throws. It is one large room divided into two separate spaces  and using some of the same elements helped to bring continuity to the large space.

Did you know that the pineapple is a symbol of hospitality? In the18th century, in the south, a pineapple was placed on the dining room table when guests arrived. It would sit in the same place for their entire visit. In those days travel could be extremely difficult and it took long periods of time to get anywhere, so when you had guests they stayed for long periods of time. When the family was ready for their guests to leave they would remove the pineapple from the table and place it on the guests bed. That was a polite sign to the guest that the host family was ready for them to go.

Have a great day!
